Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy is a physical therapy that generates a large area pulsed magnetic field of low frequency on the human body. A PEMF device drives electricity through copper coils at specific waveforms and frequencies, which the principles of Maxwell’s Law, produce a pulsing magnetic field, which, induces electrical flow in the cells that are in proximity to the field, that is, the person using the device. PEMF influences the cell by improving ion pumps or electron pumps in cell membranes. This leads to a cascade of changes that causes signalling molecules to improve cell function and energy output. The cell becomes better able to return to normal efficient function when stressed by any condition. The capacity to respond to stress and return to normal is called homeostasis and is the basis of health.
